Norfolk Black History Month is a volunteer-led community interest company celebrating Black culture, history and community across Norfolk — not just in October, but all year round. We curate events for and by the Black community: talks, exhibitions, fashion shows and family days, built around celebration, education and real understanding.

Behind every NBHM event is a small team of volunteers who make it happen — organising, fundraising, and showing up, alongside everyone who lends a hand along the way. Meet the people building this each year, and what brought them to it.

So Much to Celebrate

There's always something happening with Norfolk Black History Month, and it's not all serious. Alongside the talks and the history, we love a good celebration too. Think African Fashion Shows on the runway, picnics in the park, and marking Ghanaian Independence Day alongside Norfolk's Ghanaian community. We run events right through the year, not just October, with a summer gathering, an end of year celebration, and plenty in between, each one celebrating a different side of Black culture, from fashion and food to music, family days and history itself.
