The Gloucester’s Voyage Into Black History,

a panel discussion

In 1654 the Gloucester was launched and voyaged into Black History with Cromwell’s Western Design. The ship spent the first two years of her life in the West Indies keeping Jamaica from Spanish control. When the Gloucester sank she was under the jurisdiction of the future King James II who was the founder of the Royal African Trading Company. Jamaican artist Danny Keen has organised this panel discussion to coincide with Jamaican Independence weekend, to look at the implications of the Gloucester’s Black History.
